When it was time to decide our honeymoon destination, both of us zeroed in on Ooty. A hill station with a difference, Ooty offers an exact atmosphere to lovebirds where they can talk endlessly to each other, enjoying the beauty of nature and making sweet promises of sharing and caring. Bestowed with the mystical Blue Mountains i.e. the Nilgiri Hills, this lovely hill station is exactly what we had imagined it to be. And so was our host who made every trip memorable.
We choose a beautiful home stay cottage at Ooty. Dated back to 19th century, this monumental mystery has a more intriguing look with the waterfall and valley around. When we had made ourselves comfortable, we went to the dining room for lunch. A lavish local style meal of rice, vegetables, sambhar and chapatti lay in front of us that we devoured with great relish. After a little rest, it was time for scouting and so, we went outside, walking together hand in hand, absorbing the charming views of the lofty mountains, tea gardens and the greenery scattered around. The adorable locals obliged us every time we asked them to click our photos.
At sunset, we were back to our cottage and our host asked us to accompany him to the machan which gave us a panoramic view of the forest. The discerning man he is, he left us alone and we sat there watching the sun go down the hills. It was sheer magic. Next day was solely reserved for outings and first in line was Ooty Lake. Set among Eucalyptus groves with the railway line running on one bank, it is the best place to be with your better half. We rented a boat to enjoy the lake ride, after which we went to the Deer park, located nearby, to revive our childhood adventures.
The Government Rose Garden and Ooty Botanical Gardens were very beautiful and we saw a diverse and delectable flora that was completely a class apart. On return to our cottage, we were treated with piping hot coffee, eggs and toast and then again went to the machan to revisit those invaluable moments.
With too much to discover, it was getting pretty difficult to decide what to see first. However, we decided to see the Stephen’s Church before anything else. And the church looked superb in its quaint architecture. We had a good time at the Wax Museum and the Dodabetta Peak from where we had a great look at the Ooty landscape, courtesy the TTDC telescope. The manicured Pine Forest gave us a fantastic feel of Bollywood romance and so did the Wenlock Downs, with their gently undulating hills and a glimpse of the Kamaraj Sagar Dam.
As we prepared to go back to our busy schedules, both of us felt that for one more time we would go to the machan to see the rising sun this time. And so did we early next day and enjoyed every magical moment. Having bid goodbye to our host, we treated back home. We are really happy that we choose Ooty as our honeymoon destination.
