Whenever anyone mentions the pristine North-East, I feel like taking a trip even though I have had my fair share of the seven sisters but Assam still laid unexplored. And when its turn came, I was really excited as I was visiting the only hill station in the state with an equally exquisite name i.e. Haflong. Sprinkled with copious natural wonders, the landscape of this small hilly town holds many treasures and you are offered diverse geographical delights in the form of lakes, waterfalls, hills and lush green forests. I partook in the beauty without any hindrance as my home stay brought every possible comfort to me and made sure I spent my days in joy and revelry. When I landed at the cute railway station, built in a hut like style, I knew the successive journey would floor me with wondrous sights.
Haflong Lake
The prime attraction of the town possesses the grandeur of “Howrah Bridge”, although in a small measure which looked very enigmatic with the tranquil setting. The hanging bridge and the quiet river, flowing leisurely make for a scenic spot that you will love to behold. The clean and well-manicured banks with trees and hilly views give the setting such an ethereal ambience that you just do not want to leave the place. Boating facilities and water sporting activities lend it the perfect adventurous garnishing which I enjoyed a lot.
Haflong Hill
A worthwhile trekking spot, the hill is surrounded with breathtaking views of the pure natural splendor that beckon your soul into soulful trysts and once you set your eyes around, it is difficult to take a step. This is why I took my time climbing the terrain and let my soul wander in between. The restful-yet-exciting trek ended on a spiritual note with my eyes absorbing the entrancing sun going down the hills, in the evening.
Maibang
If you have a thing for old and archaic places then Maibang will definitely appeal to your mind and senses. Currently in ruins, it was once the capital of Dimasa Kachari kingdom. An erstwhile charmer, it still looks fascinating. Desolation and dilapidation seem to have added a mystical magic to the town. The twin monuments of Rasbari- ruins of Kachari Kingdom and Ek Patthar Ghar- the 12th century monolithic temple are completely classic in their own right.
Jatinga
Shrouded in the mystery of birds committing suicides, this village attracts tourist in droves who come here to watch the amazing species of avian. A heaven for bird lovers, Jatinga is nestled in beautiful green hills that you will love to look at and walk around. A footloose to the core, I surveyed around, taking snap shots of the tribal locals and the scenic bounty. Guided by my hosts and egged on by the wanderlust, Jatinga proved every bit to be a gem.
So, when are you coming to this solo hill station of Assam? If you are looking for an exquisite tourist wonder to come under your conquering list then Haflong is a must. You will always cherish it with pride and pleasure.
