WHAT TO EXPECT

Prabhakar Homestay is scenically located in the hills above Guwahati in Assam. This Guwahati homestay experience is about living amidst a plethora of birds, cruising on the Brahmaputra, meeting Kaziranga Rhinos, visiting a tantric temple and a gateway to the Northeastern states.

The charges on double occupancy basis range from  Rs 4200-5500 depending on the cottage being chosen. The single occupancy rates range between 3800-5000.

    Shiela is a retired Professor of History from Dibrugarh University. She is credited with initiating a course on Tourism at the University. Having travelled twice as a Fullbright Scholar to Harvard and Yale, she has a thorough knowledge of the history of the region. Shiela’s father, Prabhakar Barua was the Chief Conservator of Forests for over a decade in Assam so the combination of history, wildlife and her own travels make interesting stories for guests in the homestay. Mahesh, is a retired mining engineer from Coal India and is now passionately involved with sustainable eco friendly projects creating handmade paper from elephant and rhino dung. He is also an avid orchid enthusiast and is proud to display almost 250 varieties of orchids in the property.

    Kaziranga is an unforgettable experience. Spread over 430 sq KMs, this world heritage site has 2/3 of the world’s one horned rhinos. There are tigers as well.   • Suggested Activity #2Cruise on the Brahmaputra

    Guests can take a one hour Sun set cruise on the Brahmaputra. Food, drinks and music is on the menu. The sun set cruise departs at 530 pm from Uzan bazaar while the dinner cruise is from 730-830 pm. There are overnight cruises also available.   • Suggested Activity #3Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

    Guests can drive for an hour to visit Pobitora where they can see the legendary one horned rhinoceros, leopard, wild boar, Barking deer, wild buffalo and thousands of migratory birds.

  • Suggested Activity #3Kamakhya Tantric temple

    Kamakhya is a tantric temple dedicated to the mother goddess. Guests would appreciate the rebuilding of the temple multiple times between 8th and 17th centuries during which Kamakhya was famous for tantrik sacrifices, mysticism and sorcery
