When my friend suggested me to accompany her to Panchgani for the admission of her son in one of the reputed boarding schools, I had no idea I would fall for the charms of this hill station so dearly that I would return within a week for a vacation.
Panchgani is only 100 km away from Pune and a perfect getaway to beat the daily grind of city life and gain the much-needed spiritual energy to get back to the inevitable mundane pattern. This lovely hill station is tucked away among five hills and lush greenery with a wide variety of flora and fauna on display. I loved every waking moment that I spent here but some stood out, like the:
Sojourn at Sydney Point
I have rejoiced many breathtaking views from hills but this one was not just breathtaking but also relaxing. It felt as though I was at the doorstep of heaven with the angels calling me to relax in their loving lap. The vibrant greenery spread around, the vast expanse and the large open sky above, all seemed to be bowing together to pay obeisance to Mother Nature. The Krishna Valley looked formidable and the glittering waters of Dhom Dam took away every woe without making any noise. I breathed in the blessings for hours, capturing the charms from various spots so that I could tap into their serene beauty and seek solace in its arms.
Meeting with Mapro Gardens
Panchgani is famous for strawberry cultivation and more than 80% of the produce in India comes from this lovely hill station. The Mapro Gardens is the ultimate destination for strawberry lovers and the juicy delight was that I came here when it was hosting the Annual Strawberry Festival. With feasts laid on offer, I tasted the sweet fruits as much as I wished and also enjoyed the traditional folk performances. Good food coupled with good dance; what else can one ask to make one’s day?
Tryst with Table Land
If you have a fascination for caves, Table Land will regale you amply. Housed on the second longest mountain plateau in Asia, the mysterious inlets intrigue you with their shape and structure. You can find many caves here among which the Devil’s Kitchen is quite remarkable. It is said that the Pandavas had stayed in this cave for a brief period. Table Land is a pleasure for those who are enamored by the mystic beauties of nature.
Stay at Exotic Home Stay
How can I ever forget my cute home stay? My abode for two days comforted me like a lover, caring for me every moment and letting me be at ease, always and ever. The beautiful sights from the windows and the terrace are etched in my mind. And how do I thank the generous hosts who were always willing to pitch for any kind of help or advice.
Panchgani is a therapeutic hill station which you can visit at any time of the year and be sure to be replenished and rejuvenated.
