At times, the thrill of a holiday plan comes to a standstill, when our family priorities overpower and as a result of it, the fun quotient takes a back seat. These priorities can range anywhere from kid friendly accommodations revolving around safety of children; home cooked food; or expert local knowledge and/or the various other factors, which fails to compensate the comforts of your home sweet home.
Even though, hotels provide all the possible amenities and comforts under the sun, but it does burn a hole in your pocket and seldom fulfills the luxuries of home comfort. That’s when homestays come into the limelight. Homestays are run by families and couples, who are mostly homeowners who welcome visitors providing facilities matching the offerings of a hotel.
Coorg is one such place, which is famous for homestays. Reckoned as the Scotland of India, Coorg is the choicest destination in South India. Visitors come down from far flung places to cherish this paradise of sublime waterfalls and lush greenery. The place receives the highest rainfall with rainy season starting from June to November. The uneven terrain makes it a fantastic spot for trekking and exploring nature encompassing exuberant emerald landscapes.
The moment you enter Coorg, all you see is trails of coffee plantations. You can find plethora of homestays at a stone throw distance, it’s just that you need to find the one that suits your needs. Being an ardent nature lover, I wanted to stay amidst the nature and break free from the urbanized city environment. After loads of recommendations and research, we finally zeroed down on one amazing homestay. This was an independent house that provided a breathtaking view of the valley. The owners Asha and Sagar played the best hosts with an impeccable hospitality. Strategically located 58 kms from Madikeri town, it boasts of great ambiance and delectable home-cooked food. There are a number of places in Coorg worth a visit. Nisargadhama, a great picnic spot on the banks of the river Cauvery is 51 kms from away from this place; Dubare Elephant camp, 45 kms; Nagarhole, a Wildlife Sanctuary, 30 kms away; Nalknad Palace, an old Palace, located 41 kms away; Virajpet St. Anns Church is just 13 kms away and Tibetan Colony with a Golden temple and monastery, renowned for Tibetan handicrafts is situated 45 kms from the place where we stayed.
So, the next time when you plan your vacation to Coorg, consider living in a homestay. I am sure, you will not only enjoy the perks of a wonderful stay but, will also chersh the experience for a long time to come.
