WHAT TO EXPECT:

Bananki is a home stay in Thirthahalli, Shimoga district where one gets to experience the famed Malnad hospitality. The ancestral house is ornate and is set in lush green surroundings. The speciality of this home stay experience is the authentic Malnad cuisine. Recommended activities are a visit to Kuppali, hometown of poet laureate Kuvempu, River Tunga, Kodachadri mountain and Agumbe which is famous for King Cobra research institute and the “Malgudi” house.

The charges are Rs 1900/- per person per day which includes 3 meals a day, bed coffee evening coffee and snacks. Children aged 6 to 12yrs are charges half rates. Children below 5yrs of age are not charged.

Suggested Activity #1 Trip to Kuppali

Guests can undertake a cultural tour by visiting Kuppali, the home town of poet laureate Kuvempu. His house has been converted into a heritage museum where once can have a look at the life led by the great Poet. Near the house is an Art gallery which houses paintings done Purnachandra Tejasvi, Kuvempu’s son.
Suggested Activity #2 Fishes of Tunga

Chibbalagudde is located 10 Kms from the home stay and is famous for the Vinayaka temple and fishes of Tunga. The temple is located on the banks of River Tunga. Guests can feed the fishes which come in large numbers to the banks, a tradition followed by the temple pilgrims. There is a small shop which provides buckets of rice flakes as fish food.
Suggested Activity #3 Sirimane Falls

Located 5 Kms from the town of Kigga near Sringeri, Sirimane falls is a magnificent sight in the monsoons and provides a refreshing bath.
Suggested Activity #4 Agumbe rainforest

A drive through Agumbe rainforest is very scenic as there is a permanent mist cover here due to incessant rains round the year. Agumbe is also the home of the legendary King Cobra.
Suggested Activity #5 Malgudi Days

Agumbe town is worth visiting to see Dodda Mane, the house where the famous TV serial Malgudi Days was shot. The inmates of the house are gracious enough to allow visitors to have a look at the legendary house.
