WHAT TO EXPECT

The Varikatt Heritage homestay is a heritage villa located at the very heart of Trivandrum, within walking range of most of the city’s sights. Originally built in the Indo-Saracenic style, now tastefully restored to reproduce the high living characteristic of the times of the Raj and later, Varikatt integrates the city’s colonial heritage with India’s modern spirit, combining 18th century colonial character with today’s efficient and practical vision.The villa exudes the old-world charm across its 5,000 square feet. It comprises of one deluxe suite and three deluxe double rooms and has a generous verandah, a lush green garden/yard, both providing a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city center. The villa also has an orchid garden and a badminton court, along with swings and hammocks to relax.

The eco-friendly and well-maintained grounds surrounding this Trivandrum homestay are a peaceful retreat from the city, but for those who wish to venture out into the city, there are a number of fascinating Temples and Museums nearby, as well as a Fair price handicraft and The Zoological Gardens.

This Trivandrum homestay has 4 rooms with the price starting from Rs.4000 to Rs.6000 per night. Extra bed is available at a charge of Rs.1000. This is inclusive of complimentary breakfast. Taxes are extra.

    They have 4 rooms of which 3 are Deluxe Rooms (named B, C and D) and 1 is a Deluxe Suite. All the rooms have attached bathroom with state of the art fittings. The suite is spacious and generously appointed with antique hand-carved rosewood furniture, in the form of chairs, king-size beds, dressers and antic furniture. The Deluxe Luxury Suite also enjoys an attached dressing room, AC bed room and modern sanitary fittings. All rooms have mod cons such as a mini-fridge, cable TV, WiFi, air conditioning and a phone.

  • Food Continental & Kerala cuisine

    While Kerala cuisine is the favorite here, other regional cuisines from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra, Maharastrian, Gujarati, Mughlai and even Chinese and Continental food is possible on prior request. There is a sumptuous breakfast combining the best of both Kerala and Continental items, supported with fresh fruits and coffee or tea. The Chef will be happy to reveal the secret blends of spices that go into each recipe, starting always with only the fresh locally grown vegetables, grains, fish and meat

    Col (Retd) & Mrs. Kuncheria, hosts during your stay here are present generation members of Varikatt who, apart from their gracious hospitality, will add to your experience with anecdotes and stories that has contributed to the legend of Varikatt. Colonel Roy does a lot of the cooking too, alongside his sons and the chef, serving up a feast of unique recipes. If you ask, he’ll happily teach you how to make them and give you copies to take away.

    Hang out on the veranda, sheltered from the sun and or the monsoon rains, with board games, playing cards and reading books from the small library of children’s fiction and popular literature. You can also snooze in a hammock or the 2-person swing, or play a game of badminton to soothe your mind and muscles with an in-house yoga or meditation class.

  • Suggested Activity #2 Ayurvedic Massage

    Try all manner of Ayurvedic treatments and massages at the nearby spa or on the antique massage table at the house, including herbal baths, dhara (warm oil massages), kizhi (herb poultice massage) and nasya (inhalation therapy).

    Visit Trivandrum’s temples and wander through the Zoological Gardens. A walking track through the city takes you past Kanaka Kunnu Palace and the museum.You can also browse the Fair Trade market for unusual handicrafts

    Excursions can be arranged to the local beach at Veli Tourist Village, Kovalam, and to exotic Varkala beach, as well as to the picturesque backwaters, cruising on an authentic thatched houseboat or homestay on the banks of river Pampa. Trip can be arranged to Neyyar dam, Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary and Munnar Tea country.
