Tenerife is a Home Stay in Coonoor set in a typical Nilgiri Tea Plantation. It is located on the slopes of the tallest mountain in Coonoor. There are 2 bedrooms and hence 2 families can stay. The host family stays on the first floor while guests have the ground floor’s exclusive access. The Bunglow is fully furnished with teak and rosewood furnishings. Tea tasting, plantation walk, trekking the Nilgiri mountains and Toda tribal village visit would be the highlight of possible activities. One of the rare places where authentic Badaga cuisine is available.
The tariff when you take both rooms is Rs. 5000 per couple per night inclusive of breakfast and the extra person charge is Rs. 750. Child between the ages of 6 and 12 are charged Rs 750 inclusive of breakfast.

There are 2 bed rooms which are well furnished with double beds. The rooms open out to a well manicured garden. Both rooms have attached bathrooms. The common areas include a dining room and a drawing room with a great view of the valley below. There is a library with a interesting collection of books on Tea. Badminton and board games are also available.

Tenerife Home stay is one of the rare places where one can get authentic “Badaga” cuisine. The Badagas are the most prominent local community in the Nilgiris who had settled in these parts by the 14th century.

Sandeep is a terrific host. Tea is his passion and he makes a great effort to make his guests appreciate the nuances of different types of Tea! He is very patient and answers any number of questions on Tea. His guided tour of the Tea planation is very enjoyable.

Suggested Activity # 1 Tea Tasting
Sandeep is very passionate about Tea and will go at great length to explain the different varieties of Nilgiri Tea and their character. He makes an effort to explain the subtle differences of flavor and strength between the different Tea varieties. Guests get to sip the various varieties of Tea to place them in their order of strength and flavor.

Suggested Activity # 2 Plantation walk
There is a guided tour of the Tea Plantation where guests will learn about all phases of tea making from the nursery to the production stage. It is a fascinating experience to watch the art of picking tea leaves at close quarters.

Suggested Activity # 3 Trek to the Nilgiris
Trekking trips are also organized upon request. Two of the more popular trails at Coonoor are Lambs Rock and Lady Cannings seat.

Suggested Activity # 4 Tribal village visit
One of the most exciting activities at Coonoor would be the visit to a Toda Tribal village. Todas are the natives of Nilgiris. Guests get to see the village as well as their pastoral way of life. Stepping into a Dogle, or a Toda Hut is a fascinating experience.
