Chandralayam is a old heritage home set in a quiet, rustic village in Bekal, Kasargod surrounded by lush rice fields. Stepping into this venerable old house, one is transported into a bygone era and the old lifestyle of the landed gentry in Kerala. It is located a kilometre away from Kottikulam railway station. The house has been built in the typical style of the Hindu Theravadas of Kerala with plenty of aesthetically carved woodwork. The wide and beautiful lobby for gathering is truly a great piece of work. The vast tree shaded grounds have a variety of tropical fruit bearing trees like the jackfruit, mango, areca nut palms and coconut groves.

This Bekal homestay has 6 AC/non-AC rooms with attached bathrooms and the tariff ranges from Rs.1500 to Rs.3500/- for one bedroom per night. This is inclusive of complimentary breakfast. Extra person/child is charged at Rs.300.

This is largest fort of its kind in Kerala and is the crowning glory of Kasargod. This imposing fort at Bekal is one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala. Just 4kms away from Chandralayam, this 300 year old majestic fort went on to be one of the main forts of the great “Tipu Sultan” also known as the grandfather of projectiles.

  • Suggested Activity #2 Kappil Beach

Vast, remote, secluded and just 2kms away from Chandralayam, it is refreshingly different from popular beach destinations with its inspiring settings and ambience. Situated nearby is the Kodi Cliff that looks as if it has sprang straight out of the sea. You can take in one of the most panoramic views of the sea from here.

  • Suggested Activity #3 Ananthapuram Lake Temple

Situated 7kms away from the homestay, Ananthapuram Lake Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old and is the only lake temple of Kerala. It is on the top of a hill, not too far from the town of Kasargod, the temple rests in the lake Ananthapuram and is believed to be guarded by a crocodile called “Babia” who is meant to be the protector of the temple. The idol inside the temple has been made with a unique blend of Ayurvedic herbs.

  • Suggested Activity #3 Tejaswini - Vallyaparamba backwaters.

This is one of the most scenic backwater stretches in Kerala fed by four rivers and dotted with numerous little islands, this much favoured destination offers enchanting boat cruises. This is 27kms away from the homestay.
