WHAT TO EXPECT

Malvan Homestay in a farm in Sindhudurg amidst coconut trees, beetelenut trees, banana & spice plantation and a stream. Enjoy Malvan cuisine, indulge in some farming activities and visit the legendary Sindhudurg fort.

Tariff is Rs 5400 per night on double occupancy basis. This includes morning tea, breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner. Extra persons are charged Rs 1700. Kids between 5 & 10 are charges Rs 600.

  • Rooms5 cottages

    The 5 cottages are situated in dense coconut, beetle nut, banana and spice plantation. There is no TV. AC is also not there as it is not required in this area. 2 easy chairs are provided in the balcony. Supplies include 2 bath towels,4 hangers,2 soaps, copper jar and glasses.

  • FoodMalvani cuisine

    Malvan food is served on banana leaves or ‘Patravali’ leaf plates. Earthen pots are used to serve food. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian food is served. All the vegetables served here are organic and grown in the village itself. Chool (Mud-stove) is used to cook food which imparts a distinct flavor to the food.

  • Hosts Samanth Family

    Pravin Samanth is a chemist by profession and manages the plantation. He has taken many eco friendly measures at the homestay and is a strong advocate of sustainable tourism. Priya Samanth, his wife, has worked in Insurance for 20 years and is the chef for the Malvani food fare. Prathamesh, their son is a hotel management graduate while Nagesh Samanth, Pravin’s father takes care of the farm.

  • Suggested Activity #1Village walk

    A village walk around the farm is highly recommended. The Konkani style houses are worth looking at. The Friday bazaar is another attraction worth visiting where villagers buy and sell goods. Guests can also pick up tips from the ladies of the village on recipes of Malvani delicacies.

  • Suggested Activity #2Farming activities

    The hosts encourage guests to participate in the farming activities. Possibilities are feeding and milking cow, watering plants, plucking coconut and mangoes, peeling coconut, taking out water from well ,learning to use ‘ Laath’ a traditional equipment to source water for irrigation, etc.

  • Suggested Activity #3Local temple tour

    Some of the interesting temples near the homestay which can be visited are Adinarayan an ancient Sun temple, Vetoba and Ravalnath temples in the village, Mauli Temple at village Pat, and Banyeshwar Temple on the plateau nearby.

  • Suggested Activity #4Sindhudurg Fort

    The legendary Sindhudurg Fort is located 54 Kms from Maachlis. Built by Shivaji Maharaj in 1664, the fort is built on a 48 acre island off the Malvan coast and has a temple dedicated to him!
